Our weekly Ensembles program brings young people together to think imaginatively, express themselves artistically, and discover the joys of performance. Our Next Stage program pushes young artists to the next level of their creative development, challenging them to rise to professional practice.

We create a space for young people to connect, collaborate and belong. We bring them together with professional artists to discover new skills and learn how to make theatre in a supportive environment.

In our workshops, young artists develop their skills in:

  • Voice
  • Movement
  • Character Work
  • Improvisation
  • Collaboration
  • Devising
  • Script Work – Scene & Monologue
  • Script Writing
  • Confidence
  • Self Expression

Parent Testimony
The care you showed the kids, and the commitment to their development and experience: just exceptional. The experience of it will have a significant influence on all the kids, and we will see it not just now, but well into their futures, no matter what they choose to do with them. It has had several positive impacts – an increase in confidence, willingness to ‘have a go’ at things, a sense of ‘I can do this!’

ENSEMBLES

At Canberra Youth Theatre, we go beyond simply teaching skills; we foster a collaborative learning environment where young artists actively engage in the creative process. Skills are developed and embedded through shared exploration, with young artists encouraged to contribute their ideas and shape the direction of their work.

Ensembles provide young artists with the extraordinary opportunity to collaborate directly with seasoned industry professionals, each bringing a wealth of knowledge and expertise to every session. Through an authentic artistic process, participants refine their craft, sharpen critical analysis skills, and forge meaningful friendships along the way. This immersive experience offers unparalleled access to the insights and techniques of professionals at the forefront of the creative arts, inspiring young artists to grow and thrive.

This inclusive and supportive environment caters to all skill levels and interests. Ensembles are perfect for those looking to boost their confidence, explore the artistic process of theatre-making, and create meaningful work within a nurturing and collaborative community.

We’ve reimagined our current program to deliver a refined and enhanced experience for young artists. Our dynamic program combines skill-building with exploration, immersing participants in a diverse range of theatrical styles, acting techniques, and performance practices. Designed to inspire and challenge, every element has been thoughtfully crafted and continuously reviewed to ensure it remains fresh, engaging, and relevant. This innovative approach empowers young artists to push creative boundaries, hone their craft, and discover their unique artistic voice.

Ensembles is open to young artists of all skill levels who are passionate about acting and interested in building their confidence, developing performance skills, and engaging in the creative process. It’s ideal for those looking to explore theatre-making in a collaborative and supportive environment.

Ensembles program runs on a term-based model, with each term offering a mix of skill-building exercises, creative exploration, and opportunities to develop original work. Each term concludes with a short sharing, where participants can showcase their progress.

While most terms will be led by the same facilitator to ensure consistency, we occasionally bring in guest artists to expose participants to different perspectives and techniques from the theatre industry.

Yes! The term-based structure allows new participants to join at the start of any term, making it easier for young artists to get involved at a time that works best for them.

Participants should wear comfortable clothing they can move in and bring a water bottle. Any additional materials required for specific activities will be communicated in advance.

Ensembles is perfect for young people who love theatre, are curious about exploring it for the first time, or want to discover new ways to express themselves creatively. Whether your child enjoys working in a team, is excited to try something new, or simply wants to build their confidence in a supportive environment, Ensembles is designed to be accessible and rewarding for participants at any stage of their journey.

Ensembles is perfect for building confidence in a safe and encouraging environment. Our facilitators are skilled at creating inclusive spaces where every participant feels supported to express themselves and develop at their own pace. Theatre offers a fantastic opportunity for quieter young people to explore their creativity, connect with others, and build self-assurance in a supportive setting.

Pricing varies depending on the program. Please see our website in the coming weeks for details. Payment plans are available and a limited number of financially supported places, to ensure accessibility for all families.

We strive to create an inclusive environment for all participants. Please contact us to discuss how we can best support your young person.
