Legacy Bequests

Leave a stage for the next generation

At Canberra Youth Theatre, everything begins with a young person discovering they have something to say.

A bequest is one of the most powerful ways to ensure that moment continues to exist — for the next generation, and the one after that.

A gift in your will helps sustain the artists, spaces, and creative opportunities that allow young people to step into rehearsal rooms for the first time, create their first story, speak their first lines on stage, and begin to see themselves as artists.

After the needs of your family and loved ones are taken care of, you might wish to leave a gift that will shape the future of arts through the lives of young people for generations to come.

What your legacy makes possible

A gift in your will helps ensure that young people in Canberra can continue to experience theatre as something they create, not just something they watch.

It may help support:

  • a first rehearsal where young people devise a scene from nothing but their own ideas
  • a workshop where a young person writes and performs their first monologue
  • a production where an ensemble of young artists builds a new Australian work together
  • a rehearsal room where uncertainty turns into confidence
  • opportunities for emerging artists and theatre-makers to guide and mentor young people

These are not abstract outcomes. They are real moments that shape how a young person understands themselves and their place in the world.

How to leave a gift

Leaving a gift in your will is straightforward.

You can ask your solicitor or trustee to include Canberra Youth Theatre using one of the following options:

  • Residual gift – A percentage of what remains in your estate after loved ones have been provided for.
  • Pecuniary gift – A fixed sum of money.
  • Specific gift – A particular item or asset.

Many supporters choose a residual gift, as it adjusts naturally over time and can have enduring impact.

Suggested wording

You may wish to share the following with your solicitor:

I give to Canberra Youth Theatre ABN [insert ABN] of [insert address] for its general purposes:

  • the residue of my estate; or
  • [insert percentage]% of my estate; or
  • the sum of $[insert amount];

free of all duties and taxes, and I direct that the receipt of an authorised officer of Canberra Youth Theatre will be a sufficient discharge to my trustees.

This wording is provided as a guide only. We recommend obtaining professional legal advice when making or updating your will.
