2021 Season

Welcome to our 2021 Season!

2020 was definitely not the year that any of us expected! This coming year will see many challenges arise as we continue to reconnect, explore new ways to share stories, and create theatre. This past year has reiterated for us how much we value the work that we do. Theatre for us is more than just an artform, it’s a way of life, and we enter 2021 more resolved than ever to empower the voices of young people.

Our young artists continue to ignite powerful conversations, challenge the world around them, and create work that invites us to see the world from a new perspective. We are producing an exciting season of Australian works that will challenge audiences expectations about what theatre created by young people can achieve.

Little Girls Alone in the Woods explores the pressures and tensions in our society that exist when you know there must be an alternative, but not what that option is. In a spectacular theatrical event, I’ve Been Meaning To Ask You sees young people finally get the answers to the big questions they’ve been seeking. Two Twenty Somethings… is a hilarious comedy that delves into the millennial psyche and captures the anxieties of being young today.

In 2021 our training programs continue to bring young people together to collaborate with professional artists, develop skills, express their creativity, and create pathways to artistic careers. This year we are expanding the opportunities we offer to emerging artists as they explore their artistic practice. We are strengthening our relationships with arts companies across the ACT, and investing in the commissioning and creative development of new Australian plays for young people.

We hope you can come be a part of what we do, join us for our productions, and support the work of our young and emerging artists. No matter what 2021 throws at us, Canberra Youth Theatre will continue to amplify the voices of young people and create powerful theatre.

We look forward to seeing you!
